News

Askonas Holt is delighted to welcome Philipp von Steinaecker to the roster for worldwide general management.

Philipp has been Music Director of the Mahler Academy Bolzano for a decade. His passion for historically informed performance led him to create the Academy’s Originalklang project, bringing together musicians from Europe’s foremost orchestras with outstanding young talents to rediscover the original sound world of Mahler’s Viennese orchestra.

His 2024 European tour with the orchestra was hailed by critics as “Transparent, heart-breaking, shatteringly modern: this is how one wants to hear all Mahler symphonies from now on,” (Der Tagesspiegel) with Trouw remarking “It felt as if Gustav Mahler himself was back in the building.” A further European tour is planned with the orchestra this summer, with performances in Bolzano, Toblach, Stresa, London, Cologne, Amsterdam, Linz, Vienna and Hamburg.

A versatile conductor with a broad repertoire spanning from Baroque and Early Classical to German Romanticism and the Second Viennese School, Philipp is also in demand as a Guest Conductor. He has collaborated with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Orchestra, Orchestre de chambre de Paris, SWR Symphonieorchester, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He also served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra from 2019–22.

Philipp will be managed at Askonas Holt by Adam Brady, Henry Lindsayand Will Padfield.
